Don't read The Magician's Nephew first! If you read one book from the Chronicles of Narnia, you'll have to finish them all (the "If you give a mouse a cookie" phenomenon), and if you're reading the series for the first time, you should do it in the order he wrote them, *not* the chronological order of the stories themselves, which is a post-publication thing done by the people who sell them as sets. This is what my uncle said to me, after I had read them all in the "wrong" order. Then I read them in the "right" order, and I tend to agree with him.
Long story short, start with The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, and if you've read that one, go for Prince Caspian. Obviously, I have them all, and you're welcome to borrow one or more if you'd like.
